New Delhi: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province Police on Thursday said, “At least one policeman was killed and four others injured in an explosion inside a police check post in Mardan. A bomb exploded in the Chamtar police check post,”

Following the explosion, heavy contingents of police and rescue officials rushed to the scene and shifted the injured and the policeman’s body to the hospital for treatment and legal formalists.

The police have launched investigations to ascertain the nature and intensity of the blast. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion. The Mardan district police officer (DPO) later visited the injured at the hospital and also inspected the site of the blast. Security in the area was beefed up after the incident.

The Mardan Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) registered a case against unidentified suspects and said, around eight to 10 kilograms of explosives were used in the blast. Mardān is a city in the Mardan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, Pakistan. Located in the Valley of Peshawar, Mardan is the second-largest city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A local political leader of Pakistan strongly condemned the attack and tweeted, “Our condolences go out to the family of the martyred police constable. We repeatedly warned about the new wave of terrorism, but no seriousness has been shown in this regard. Police and the public are paying the price for that.”
