New Delhi: More than 31.78 crore unorganised workers have been registered on the e-Shram portal as of July 14, 2026, strengthening the government’s efforts to extend social security benefits to workers in the unorganised sector, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has said.
Launched on August 26, 2021, the e-Shram portal serves as a comprehensive National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW), covering categories such as migrant workers, gig workers and platform workers. Registered workers are issued a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration.
As part of the Union Budget 2024-25 vision of developing e-Shram into a One-Stop Solution for unorganised workers, the Ministry launched the integrated platform on October 21, 2024. The initiative enables registered workers to access multiple social security and welfare schemes through a single portal and view the benefits they have received.
So far, 15 welfare schemes of various Central Ministries and Departments have been integrated with the e-Shram platform. These include Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), among others.
The portal is also linked with the National Career Service (NCS) for employment opportunities, the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) for skill development, the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM-SYM) pension scheme and the convergence portal of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
To strengthen implementation at the State level, the Ministry launched dedicated e-Shram Microsites for States and Union Territories on January 29, 2025. These platforms enable States and UTs to simplify worker registration, update and verify data, and access State-specific analytics for better planning and delivery of welfare services.
According to the Ministry, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of registered workers on the portal with 8.45 crore registrations, followed by Bihar (3.24 crore), West Bengal (2.67 crore), Madhya Pradesh (1.95 crore) and Maharashtra (1.86 crore).
Among the integrated welfare schemes, One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) has recorded the highest enrolment with 24.46 crore beneficiaries linked through the portal, followed by Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY with 15.10 crore enrolments and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) with 8.53 crore enrolments. The Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) has covered 6.20 crore workers, while PM-KISAN has reached 3.96 crore beneficiaries through the platform.
