Mumbai: The Health Authority of Maharashtra on Monday discharged 31 ‘Omicron’ infected patients from hospitals and reported zero cases of a new variant in the last 24 hours, says a media report. The patients have been discharged from hospitals after their RT-PCR test reports came negative.

The highest 22 cases infected with Omicron, classified as a ‘variant of concern’ by the WHO, were from Mumbai.

The Health Authority further added that the state has witnessed around 136,400 travelers arriving from overseas since December 1, including 20,105 from ‘at-risk’ countries, at airports.

India reported 6,563 fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare taking the total cases in the country since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,47,46,838.

Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday informed that 161 Omicron cases had been detected in India and the government had arranged a buffer stock of important medicines to overcome the shortage of essential drugs.

“Country’s vaccine manufacturing capacity would be increased to 45 crore doses per month in the next two months,” said Mansukh Mandaviya in Rajya Sabha. India’s active caseload currently stands at 82,267, the lowest in 571 days.
