New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was summoned again by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in a money laundering case linked to the National Herald newspaper. Sonia Gandhi was given four weeks which ends on July 22.

Gandhi was issued a second summons for June 23 by the agency, but the 75-year-old Congress leader could not keep the date as she was “strictly advised to rest at home following her hospitalization on account of COVID-19 and a lung infection”.

According to officials, For the first time, the ED issued summon for Sonia Gandhi on June 1 but after she reported positive for Covid, the summons for June 23 were issued. Rahul Gandhi, Sonia’s son and senior Congress leader was earlier questioned for five days and has spent over 50 hours at the ED office over five sittings with the investigators questioning him over multiple sessions and recording his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The probe relates to alleged financial irregularities in the Congress-promoted Young Indian Private Limited, which owns the National Herald newspaper.
