Ahmedabad: The heritage, culture, and flavours of Oman are famous. Food plays a large role in the culture of Oman. Traditional Omani cuisine is one of the wonders of the unique culture. Here are a few Omani dishes that every tourist should try during their trip to the country, from dates and coffee to rice.

The Omani cuisine varies depending on the region of Oman, but it generally contains a good blend of spices, herbs, and marinades. Most dishes in the country have rice, curry, and vegetables as a base. During the day, soups are common, while dinners are lighter.

You may try these Omani delicacies:

Kubus/Khaboos

A traditional Omani bread made by Omani households is simple and elegant. Using 3 simple ingredients such as flour, water, and salt, we can prepare this delicious meal. They must either be very sticky or like pancake batter, and they need to be cooked over a sizzling pan and served with cheese, mayonnaise, or honey. This is usually served alongside the main course.

Kahwa 

The Arabic word for coffee is kawa. As well as its taste and texture, it is well known for how it is grown, dried, and prepared. Usually, Omani kahwa is mixed with cardamom powder. The Omani hospitality, just like dates, includes serving it with Halwa (dessert). Kahwa is consumed by most Omanis several times during the day. They also cook pots and sometimes bring them with them when visiting neighbours.

Omani Halwa

It is a sticky gelatinous Omani food. Made from brown sugar, honey, eggs and various spices. It has a lot of flavours such as rose water, nuts, and chocolate. Some are even made out of Omani dates, It takes quite a while to make as it is slowly boiled over a wood fire. It can last up to 4 months without losing any of its quality. It is often accompanied by tea as a sign of hospitality.

Omani Dates

These delicious Omani dates are rich in flavour and minerals, having been harvested at the pinnacle of maturity. They are one of the finest guilt-free snacks since they are high in salt, potassium, and iron. It is a staple Omani food and is often offered with kahwa. It is the National symbol of hospitality. Omani dates differ in taste, size and colour. It can be found anywhere in Oman.

Kunafa

A crispy sweet dish that fills your stomach. with spun pastry called kataifi, soaked in a sweet, sugar-based syrup called attar, and typically layered with cheese, or with other ingredients such as clotted cream, pistachio or nuts, depending on the region. Mainly made of dough, sugar, cheese, almonds, pistachios and rosewater.

Laban

Laban is a yoghurt-and buttermilk concoction that is offered across Oman.  It’s a salty beverage that comes in a variety of flavours. Cardamom and pistachios are two of the most common ingredients in laban.
