New Delhi: Starting Friday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will pay a three-day visit to India’s neighbors Bangladesh and Bhutan.

He will reach Dhaka on Friday to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed and Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momin, official reports said on Thursday.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Dr. Jaishankar’s visit to Bangladesh is part of the frequent bilateral high-level visits and interactions, particularly as both countries mark 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations.

He had last visited Bangladesh in March 2021.

Dr. Jaishankar will also visit Bhutan on April 29 and 30.

Bhutan had the lowest mortality rate in the world during the pandemic, with only 20 deaths because of a rigorous zero-Covid policy. With only a 5-day quarantine period, travel restrictions have now been relaxed.

The Indian delegation is on a bubble tour of the Himalayan country, meaning its members will not have to go through the quarantine.

During the tour, the EAM will meet the King and the Prime Minister, among others.
