New Delhi: Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek defeated Romanian player Simona Halep in straight sets during the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Masters 2022 in California, United States, on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
World No. 4 Swiatek gained an early lead with a faulty defence from Halep, who led the set into a decider. Swiatek saved two match points and won the opener 7(8)-6 (6) with 19 games against five from Halep.
Though Halep swung the momentum in her favour in the next set, she failed to get past the French Open 2020 champion. Swiatek made long rallies at 4-2 and sealed the semi-finals by winning the set 6-4 with 16 out of 21 points.
The 20-year-old Swiatek made her second straight-set victory in a row. She will play in the Indian Wells finals for the first time against Maria Sakkari on March 20, 2022.
Meanwhile, Sakkari defeated reigning champion Paula Badosa 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the women’s singles semi-finals tournament of the Indian Wells Masters 2022 on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Badosa will n longer participate in the ATP Paribas Open finals on March 20, 2022.
