New Delhi: Teams ATK Mohun Bagan and Hyderabad Football Club (FC) share the spot with a 2-2 tie in the Indian Super League (ISL) held at the Tilak Maidan Stadium, Goa, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.
The match began on a promising note with ATK Mohun Bagan’s Hugo Boumous flicking to David Williams, who scored within 16 seconds and took Hyderabad goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani by surprise. It was the fastest recorded goal in the history of ISL.
Hyderabad FC regrouped and bounced back in the 19th minute as Mohun’s keeper Amrinder Singh slipped an easy catch by Bartholomew Ogbeche.
Ogbeche received a yellow card at the 29th minute, followed by three more players receiving yellow cards. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie.
The second half began with Hyderabad FC adopting the attacking strategy but getting caught in the off-side trap. Both teams tried saving penalties before Ogbeche collided with ATK midfielder Carl McHugh in the 39th minute. The Irish footballer lost consciousness and was in hospital as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, Williams dashed to the right of the box and gave a pass to Joni Kauko. Hyderabad’s Asish Rai deflected Kauko’s header into Hyderabad FC’s goal in the 64th minute and gave ATK a lead again.
FC underwent a double substitution in the 70th minute, whereas ATK substituted Liston Colaco for Subhasish Bose in the 89th minute.
Hyderabad’s Akash Mishra gave a pass to substitute Javier Siverio in the 90th minute. Siverio ran towards the box and smashed a square to earn a point for the team.
Though both teams created scoring chances, none could capitalise on the opportunity and sustained a 2-2 draw instead. Hyderabad FC blocked ATK’s winning chances through the match and hinted at a rise in the leaderboard rankings.
