New Delhi: The Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh on Friday put pressure on the self-reliance of India in the defense sector. The Minister said, “India cannot and should not rely on imports of military hardware and the government is committed to achieving self-reliance in defense production to remain prepared to deal with any future security challenges,”
On the ‘Atma Nirbharta’ or self-reliance, he cleared that ‘Atma Nirbharta’ or self-reliance does not mean isolation from the rest of the world, but ensuring national security and strategic autonomy through a modern military.
The latest statement of the Defence Minister will enhance the confidence of defensive product manufacturers and companies and it will boost the strength of forces.
The defense minister was addressing a conference of defense attaches (DAs) posted in Indian missions across the globe. The conference was also attended by Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and the three service chiefs.
In his address, Singh described the defense attaches as the bridge between India and friendly foreign countries for mutual defense cooperation. He also urged them to showcase the capabilities of the Indian defense industry in their countries of posting.
Appreciating the performance of the DAs, Rajnath Singh said they are making a significant contribution to securing national interests in line with the country’s foreign policy.
“India is manufacturing world-class and cost-effective weapons, equipment, and platforms, which are being internationally recognized. Our defense products are not only world-class and reliable in quality but also relatively economical,” Singh added.
