India: 12213 new covid cases in 24 hrs, highest since late Feb-22

New Delhi: India has reported more than 12200 new covid-19 cases and eleven covid-related death in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Authority said on Thursday morning. First time more than 12000 cases in 24 hours is the highest since late February-2022.

Of the people killed by coronavirus – three were from Kerala, two from Maharashtra, and one each from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

The number of covid cases (12213 new covid cases) registered in the last 24 hours is 38.4 percent higher than the case reported on June 15 (8822 Covid cases).

The health authority said, “India’s active COVID-19 caseload currently stands at 58215 and accounts for 0.13 percent of the total infections, and with 7624 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total recoveries have reached 4,26,74,712.”

Maharashtra and Kerala are the two states witnessing the highest surge in the country. While Maharashtra recorded 4,024 new cases, Kerala saw 3,488 new infections.

A large population of the country – is already vaccinated fully, but states have been told to remain alert. India’s fresh Covid surge has sparked concerns of a fourth wave, but experts have highlighted low hospitalizations and death figures.

India’s vaccine coverage has reached 195.67 crore doses. Over 3.54 crore first doses and over 2.02 crore second doses have been administered for the age group of 12 to 14. Over 5.99 crore first doses and more than 4.73 crore second doses have been given to the 15 to 18 age group.
