IMD predicts active monsoon over Rajasthan, Gujarat, MP

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted active monsoon over the Indian states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

The department shared a spatial rainfall distribution map on Twitter. The map highlighted Gujarat as the state expected to receive the highest rains followed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as on August 17.

Talking about monsoon conditions in Gujarat, the department informed, “Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall also likely over Gujarat State on August 17, 2022.”

“Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over West Rajasthan and Gujarat Region on August 17; and over Saurashtra and Kutch during August 17-18,” the IMD said.

“Isolated very heavy rainfall over West Rajasthan on August 17, 2022,” it added.

Talking about rainfall in Madhya Pradesh, IMD said, “Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall also likely over East Madhya Pradesh on August 20 and August 21, 2022.”

Meanwhile, the IMD predicted a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around August 19, 2022, thereby bringing rainfall to Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal from Friday onwards.

Regarding the influence of the low-pressure area, the IMD wrote, “Under the influence of likely formation of a Low Pressure Area over North Bay of Bengal around August 19, fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall is likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh during August 18-21, 2022.”
