IMD indicates Wet Spell over North, NW, Central India till Jan 9
New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated a wet spell over Northern, Northwestern, and Central India on January 4, 2022. The rainfall and snowfall will most likely continue till January 9, 2022.
The IMD wrote on Twitter, “Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall likely over Widespread Himalayan Region (WHR) from January 5 to January 9, 2022. The rainfall will gradually decrease thereafter.”
“Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is likely over Jammu and Kashmir from January 5 to January 9, and over Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on January 5, 8, and 9,” IMD added.
The department also predicted fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall between January 5 and 6 over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Northern Rajasthan, and Western Uttar Pradesh, wherein Punjab and Haryana are likely to experience rain with hailstorms.
Meanwhile, southern parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Western Madhya Pradesh, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh might experience isolated to scattered rainfall on January 5 and January 6, 2022. The Northwest and Central parts of the country will experience light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms during January 7-9.
The rainfall is due to two rain-bearing western disturbances over the Arabian Peninsula. Western disturbances are low-pressure systems that form over the Mediterranean sea and are carried to the Indian subcontinent by the Westerly winds. These disturbances will predominantly impact the weather of Northern India.
