Good News: The UK moves India from ‘Red’ list to ‘Amber’ list
New Delhi: The Transport Secretary of the United Kingdom tweeted that the UAE Qatar, India, and Bahrain will be moved from the red list to the amber list. All changes come into effect on 8th August Sunday at 4 am.
The Indian travelers who are fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 will no longer be subject to mandatory quarantine in the UK after the latter moved India from its ‘red’ to ‘amber’ list.
The Transport Secretary further added that “While it’s right we continue our cautious approach, it’s great news to open more destinations for people wanting to connect with families, friends, and businesses across the globe, all thanks to our successful domestic vaccination program.”
The decision comes as a relief for the Indian diaspora demanding relaxation in travel norms in the country.
According to the new rules of the UK for the traveler – All Passengers will have to take the Covid-19 test three days before travel to the country and book another test within 3 days of arrival in the country.
Upon arrival in England, such passengers are required to quarantine at home or in a place that they have confirmed as their location for 10 days and take a Covid test on or before day two and on after day eight.
Covishield, which is manufactured by Oxford-AstraZeneca in India, is likely to be covered under this exemption.
The updated travel list comes in the backdrop of another announcement that the cost for solo passengers from destinations in the red list will increase from August 12 from GBP 1,750 to GBP 2,285. The cost for an additional adult sharing a room will also go up from GBP 650 to GBP 1,430.
The UK government added seven countries to the ‘green’ list from the ‘Amber’ list and it is Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Latvia, Romania, Norway, and France. There is no requirement for mandatory quarantine from passengers traveling to the UK from green countries regardless of their vaccination status. However, such passengers will need to take a test before departure and again within two days after arrival.
