New Delhi: The first trends from Uttar Pradesh have started trickling in and the BJP is leading in 107 seats, while the Samajwadi Party is leading in 38 seats. On the other hand, the BSP and the congress are leading in four seats each.
The exit polls have predicted a clear victory for the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government with one of them projecting a repeat of the BJP’s 2017 performance when it won a whopping over 300 seats in the 403-member Assembly. While these polls are seen as a direct contest between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party, they will also decide the fate of the Congress and Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party, which are on the verge of facing an existential crisis in the state.
With exit polls predicting a close race in Uttarakhand, leaders of both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress have exuded confidence about emerging victorious during the counting of votes on Thursday.
The BJP had won 57 out of 70 seats in the last assembly polls, a rise of 26 seats from its 2012 tally. The BJP had secured a 46.51 percent vote share in the 2017 polls. The Congress could win only 11 seats though the party had a 33.49 percent vote share.
Initial trends are now available for 203 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP+ is leading in 125 constituencies, while Akhilesh Yadav-led SP+ is ahead in 75 seats.
BJP takes a huge early lead in Uttar Pradesh. Assembly Elections in five Indian states of UP, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Goa took place in seven phases spread across almost a month. Uttar Pradesh, which has 403 assembly constituencies, will have more than 750 counting halls.
A total of 250 companies of CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces) have been provided to all the districts and commissionerates of Uttar Pradesh.
