Defense: BrahMos cruise missile fails to take off on test flight
New Delhi: The long-range version of India’s powerful BrahMos supersonic cruise missile backfired and failed to launch at the testing conducted off the Odisha coast on Monday.
The missile fell to the ground minutes before taking off, media reported.
The new version of this missile is capable of striking targets up to 450 km.
A joint team of scientists from the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and BrahMos Aerospace Cooperation will soon investigate the testing failure.
Though sources claim glitches in propulsion systems to be the main reason for missile failure, a thorough examination will unveil the facts.
BrahMos missiles will hit targets longer than 300km at supersonic speeds. They have been named jointly after the great Indian river Brahmaputra (Brah) and Russia’s Moskva (Mos).
Recently, India had conducted a pilot test of the modern nuclear weapon, Agni Prime missile, in Odisha on June 28. This surface-to-surface ballistic missile has a range of 1000-2000 km.
