Covid-19: Kerala announces lockdown on July 17 and 18

Kochi: The State government of Kerala has decided to impose lockdown on July 17 and 18 after reporting a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the state. The LSG bodies were recently reclassified based on the average TPR (Test Positivity Rate) for the last seven days.

The Kerala Government in its statement said that “The present categorization of the local self-government institutions (LSGIs) based on a seven-day average TPR will continue. There will be complete lockdown on 17th and 18th July with the same guidelines as issued for 12 and 13 June.”

Accordingly, there are 165 local bodies in the A category (TPR less than 6 percent), 473 in the B category (6 -12 percent TPR), 316 in the C category (12-18 percent TPR), and 80 in the D category (TPR more than 18 percent).

The state government allowed banks to allow the public on five days. Shops in categories A, B, and C will be allowed to open till 8 pm on the days in which they are allowed already. The guidelines will come into effect from July 15 at 12 am.

The latest research at the Chennai-based Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) said “Kerala and northeastern states have emerged as regions of concern.”

Sitabhra Sinha – a man who led the research team said that “Kerala showed a brief spike in cases and its R continues to hover close to 1. The northeast region is of great concern. Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and possibly Tripura are showing a rise in the number of cases.”

Some medical experts and a few hours back Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to follow the guidelines of covid-19 and stay safe. “Fight against coronavirus not over yet in the nation and together we can stop the third wave of coronavirus,” PM Modi said.

The vaccination process in India is fast enough and around 40L people vaccinate every day. India’s cumulative COVID vaccination coverage has exceeded 38 crores 50 lakh. Union Health Ministry said, more than 34 lakh 10 thousand vaccine doses were administered on July 13.
