Covid-19: Despite pandemic, 56,268 Indian tourists visited SL in 2021
New Delhi: Despite the Covid-19 related restrictions in 2021, 1.94 lakh tourists, including 56,268 Indians, visited Sri Lanka.
Giving this information on Thursday, India’s Deputy High Commissioner in Colombo Vinod K Jacob said the Indian tourists accounted for nearly 29 percent of all tourists visiting the island nation.
He said 7,682 Sri Lankan tourists visited India in the last two months, with 196 traveling for medical reasons.
Speaking at a Ramayana Trails presentation, hosted by Sri Lanka—India Society and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Colombo, he said Ramayana-related sites in Sri Lanka would interest Indian tourists.
Jacob also announced the resumption of international commercial flights between the two countries on March 27, 2022.
