New Delhi: Indian female shuttlers Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly defeated Jemimah Leung For Sang and Ganesha Mungrah of Mauritius 21-2, 21-4 in the womens doubles badminton event and won a seat in the Quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG) held in Birmingham, England, on Friday, August 05, 2022.

The Indian duo dominated the first set throughout and made long rallies without giving the opponents to score or gain a point. Their team effort and aggressive charge led them into winning the first set 21-2.

The second set began with Treesa Jolly finding creative angles to smash and made saves as the duo gradually took lead and failed to provide opponents with any scoring chances. They aggressively lead the match and flustered their opponents, who managed to score only 4 points.

Jolly and Gopichand ultimately won the second set 21-4.  Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly progressed to the semi-finals of the women’s doubles badminton event of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
