BJP will bring the law against ‘love-Jihad’ if they come to power in the state: Kerala BJP president
Kochi: BJP President of Kerala – K.Surendran on Sunday announced that BJP will bring the law against ‘love-Jihad’ in Kerala state if they come to power.
Surendran said that – they will enact the anti-conversion law along the lines of the one passed by the Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh government.
‘Love-Jihad’ is term used to describe alleged forced conversation of non-Muslim women to Islam in the guise of marriage.
The BJP Chief of Kerala state also supported the “law against Love-Jihad” and said that “Love jihad is a serious concern nowadays in India and apart from Hindu organisations – Christian organisations and churches are also demanding a law against love jihad. So we are planning to include in our manifesto for the upcoming Assembly election that like the Uttar Pradesh government, we will also bring law against love jihad.”
Kerala is scheduled to go to polls in April-May later this year.
The UP government and MP government had passed Anti-love jihad law and proposed a maximum punishment of 10 years for ‘love jihad’ related offences.
The governments of Haryana, Karnataka and Assam are also considering bringing a similar law against love jihad.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in Lok Sabha – last week said that “The Central Government has no plans to enact a central anti-conversion law to curb inter-faith marriages in the country, adding that such laws are concerns of the state governments.”
The MHA further cleared that “the prevention, detection, registration, investigation and prosecution of offences related to religious conversions are primarily the concerns of the state governments.”
