New Delhi: The Deputy Chief of Taiwan’s defense ministry’s research and development branch was discovered dead in a hotel room on Saturday morning, says a media report. Ou Yang Li-Hsing, deputy head of the military-owned National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, had died in a hotel room in southern Taiwan.

According to the media report, 57-year-old Ou Yang died of a heart attack and the hotel room showed no sign of any ‘intrusion’, and his family said he had a history of heart disease and had a cardiac stent.

Ou Yang was on a business trip to the southern county of Pingtung and was appointed to the position at the beginning of the year to oversee various missile production projects.

As the island increases its battle capabilities in response to what it perceives as China’s rising military threat, the military-owned organization is trying to more than quadruple its yearly missile manufacturing capacity to close to 500 this year.

Taiwan on Saturday accused the Chinese army of simulating an attack on its main island while Beijing amps up its retaliation for US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei following its announcement on a suspension of cooperation with Washington on key issues.
