Alert: India reports over 2K covid cases, Shanghai reports first death due to virus
New Delhi: India registered 2,183 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases declined to 11,542. The country witnessed a massive spike on Monday as the daily cases almost doubled with a spike of over 90 percent. The country had registered 1,150 infections on Sunday.
The Chinese city of Shanghai has announced its first deaths in a COVID-19 outbreak that has plunged the financial hub into a weeks-long lockdown and sparked widespread anger and rare protests. In a statement on Monday, the city said three people infected with COVID-19 had died on the previous day.
The Covid-19 cases in the country have started to surge again with Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh reporting a spike in infections. Delhi, which reported around 200 cases last week, is currently reporting over 500 daily infections with a positivity rate of 5.33 percent. The national capital, which had registered 202 cases last Tuesday, on Sunday reported 517 Covid Cases.
A total of 135 people tested positive for the virus in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. The active caseload has now crossed the 600-mark with Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar on alert.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 deaths continue to decline in the country with only 27 new deaths recorded during the week. Last week 54 deaths were reported, which includes 13 from Kerala.
