New Delhi: Wayanad Congress Member of Parliament and former President of Congress Rahul Gandhi flown to Italy on ‘a personal visit’. Rahul Gandhi’s visit comes at a time – when assembly elections in the five states are not so far from now.

All political parties in the five states – where the election is coming – are gearing up their preparations and rallies. The Election Commission has scheduled an assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur.

Rahul Gandhi had to address a party rally in the Moga district of Punjab on January 3 to kick start campaigning in the state. However, now it is likely to be postponed.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also planning to campaign in the state around the same time.

The Sources in Punjab said that “the saffron party may begin the poll campaign in Punjab with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to hold a rally on January 5.”

It could be the first rally of PM Modi in Punjab after the repeal of three farm laws. Amarinder and Sukhdev had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda in Delhi on Monday, during which seat-sharing was discussed.

However, the Congress rally in Punjab will begin when Rahul Gandhi will return to India. In the 2017 Punjab Assembly polls, Congress ousted the SAD-BJP government after winning 77 seats.
