Winter Pollution Preparedness: Centre Reviews UP’s Action Plan

New Delhi: Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Narendra Bhooshan reviewed the Uttar Pradesh Government’s action plan to tackle air pollution in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) and assess its preparedness for the winter season. During the review meeting yesterday, Mr Bhooshan assessed various measures, including road redevelopment, decongestion of traffic hotspots, deployment of electric buses, establishment of solid waste processing facilities, and monitoring and enforcement of air pollution control measures at construction sites and industrial units.
Reviewing measures to curb vehicular pollution, Mr Bhooshan urged the State Government to actively engage with truck and bus associations to accelerate the adoption of benefits under the PARIVARTAN scheme for replacing old trucks and buses. He also called upon the Transport Department to play a proactive and facilitative role in issuing No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for shifting old vehicles out of the NCR.
The Secretary further stressed the need to expedite the installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at all fuel stations to enforce the ‘No PUCC, No Fuel’ policy aimed at curbing vehicular pollution.
