NEW DELHI, July 28: An iPhone 14 for a son! In an unheard of incident, a couple in West Bengal is reported to have sold their eight-month-old son to buy an iPhone 14 to create videos for Instagram reels.
The police have rescued the infant and have arrested the mother of the child and the woman who had paid money for the boy. The father of the child is learnt to be absconding.
The guilty couple, who also have a seven-year old daughter, has been identified as Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi, a resident of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal. They wanted to buy an expensive phone to shoot reels and settled on Apple’s latest flagship.
The police rescued the infant from Priyanka Ghosh, a resident of Khardah in the same district. They have arrested the boy’s mother and Ms Ghosh who paid money for him. The infant’s father is on the run, and a search is on to nab him.
During interrogation, the mother of the child admitted to the crime and said she and her husband wanted to use the money to take trips across the state so that they could create content for Instagram reels, the police said.
The police added that the father had also attempted to sell his daughter, but the plan did not materialise. According to their neighbour, the deal for the baby boy was struck for ₹ 2 lakh. “They visited many places, like Digha Sea Beach with the money. They even bought a mobile phone,” the neighbour told the police.
