Movie Review: Bachchan Paandey is a powerhouse of action-comedy
Mumbai: Bollywood film Bachchan Paandey released on the festival of Holi. The film is abrasive, impulsive, and remorseless. Actor Akshay Kumar as Bachchan Paandey does not have a soft side or mercy- all he wants is everyone to be terrified of him.
The film combines two genres that Akshay appears to have mastered: action and humour. He’s the action hero you adore and the villain you despise at the same time, whether it’s because of his great comedic timing or his lethal antics.
The film is set in the village of Baghwa and centres around Bachchan Paandey’s oddities, which are brought to light when an ambitious Mumbai filmmaker, Myra (Kriti Sanon), decides to produce a film about him. Maya undertakes this perilous operation alongside her companion Vishu (Arshad Warsi), a failing actor who wants to fulfil his father’s final request and reluctantly accompanies Myra on her quest.
They befriend Bachchan Paandey’s gang, do cunning things to figure out what he’s up to, and then get caught doing all of this under his nose in the course of getting to him. Will they be forgiven or punished for daring to accomplish something that no one else has done before?
We know what happened and how the tale would unfold since Bachchan Paandey is a remake of the Tamil film Jigarthanda (2014), which was inspired by the Korean film, A Dirty Carnival (2006). As a result, it’s only logical to anticipate something unique from a Hindi remake.
Unfortunately, Samji appears to be overly fixated on providing stylized scenes and has not ventured outside of his comfort zone. This prompted me to ask a critical question: Has Bollywood’s quota and ability to remake South films been depleted?
Though the film’s premise lacked lustre, the narrative’s speed may have benefited to some extent, but it falls short even here. The first half of the film entices you with the twists that take place, but the second gets a little slow.
Bollywood actors Arshad Warsi, Jacqueline Fernandes, Kriti Sanon, Prateik Babbar, and Pankaj Tripathi are seen in pivotal roles.
