New Delhi: A black day in the history of the United States – 11, September 2001 which memories are still very painful for the people of America.  On this day, the world and the US had changed the definition of terrorism. Every person in the US calls 911 to connect with Police, and it reminds them of an attack of the Twin tower also.

Terrorists of Al-Qaeda hijacked the four-passenger plans and used them as a missile on an American city, in which about 3000 people had lost their lives.

After the attack on the Twin towers, US President George W Bush responded and said that “Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists.”

The Bush administration sent American soldiers to Afghanistan to exact revenge on al-Qaeda and its founder-head Osama bin Laden. In October 2001, the month when the American troops landed in Afghanistan, a Pew survey showed 60 percent of adults in the US reposing faith in the government — an approval rating not seen in previous four decades.

The Taliban were ruling Afghanistan back then. The Taliban have been the protector of al-Qaeda since the early 1990s. In two months’ time, American forces deposed them from the seat of power. They had support from Pakistan, especially its military.

It took the US almost 10 years to seek out Osama bin Laden and kill him in a night raid, not in Afghanistan but Pakistan’s garrison town of Abbottabad in 2011. But the US, then under the Barack Obama administration, did not pull out immediately. It had a war on terror to fight.

The question arises what did the US achieved during the 20 years of the Afghan war, then on this question, the experts have said that “The pursuit of al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan a tremendous miscalculation by the US costing it over $1 trillion.

However, the US has not actually suffered that loss. The said $1 trillion did not go to the Afghan government primarily. Reports suggest that majority of the contracts for the reconstruction of Afghanistan went to American companies. So, the actual loss incurred to America would be much less.

What the US achieved is testing its weapons during the Afghan war. For example, when the US invaded Afghanistan, a drone was just an experimental thing. During its stay in Afghanistan, the US tested its drone technology in delivering weapons on its proclaimed enemies without any accountability.
