Weather: South-West Monsoon Suffers a Delayed Retreat
Ahmedabad: According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the Southwest monsoon withdrew from India on Monday. It is the seventh delayed retreat of the monsoon winds since 1975.
The IMD said, “In view of a significant reduction in rainfall activity over most parts of the country, the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country on October 25, 2021.”
“Simultaneously, the North-Easterly winds set in the lower tropospheric levels, as the Northeast monsoon rain commenced over extreme southern peninsular India.”
“The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon 2021 from the entire country is the seventh-most delayed withdrawal (on or after October 25) during 1975-2021,” it said.
The monsoon winds began retreating from West Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat on October 6, making it the second-most delayed withdrawal since 1975.
The Southwest monsoon retreat from Northwest India usually begins on September 17 every year.
