New Delhi: Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner 3-2 in Men’s single quarterfinals of the US Open 2022 at the Arthur Ashe stadium, New York, on Thursday, September 08, 2022.
The opening set saw Sinner break under Alcaraz’s pressure as the latter managed to win the set 6-3. Though Sinner entered the next set with an advantage, Alcaraz used forehand smashes and serves but in vain. The next two sets went into a decider where the Italian won 7-6 respectively.
Though Alcaraz failed to find momentum in the fourth set and had almost presented the victory to his opponent before the decider, he found his pace and surprised his fans and the audience by winning in the decider and the final set 7-5 and 6-3, respectively.
Alcaraz beat Sinner 6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 to progress in the semi-finals where the Spaniard will face Francis Tiafoe in the men’s singles semi-finals on September 10, 2022.
The 19-year-old has more wins in his first 100 matches than Rafael Nadal (67), Novak Djokovic (65), Andy Murray (63), and Roger Federer (51) ever made at that stage in their careers.
Meanwhile, World No.1 Iga Swiatek defeated Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-6 in the Women’s singles quarterfinals of the US Open 2022 at the Arthur Ashe stadium, New York, on Thursday, September 08, 2022.
After her straight set victory in the quarterfinals, Swiatek told reporters, “It feels like we all earned it. Sometimes the semifinals players are all a surprise. Right now we’re pretty solid. So I’m happy about that.”
Swiatek will face Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the Women’s singles semi-finals of the US Open 2022 at the Arthur Ashe stadium, New York, on September 09, 2022.
