United Kingdom: Around 200 protesters reached Hindu Temple in Birmingham, raised ‘Allahu Akbar’ slogans
New Delhi: The tensions between two communities continued in the United Kingdom after a Leicester-like protest was seen outside a Hindu temple in Birmingham’s Smethwick on Tuesday.
As law enforcement personnel attempted to restore order, some protesters were seen climbing walls.
According to media reports, a group called ‘Apna Muslims’ had called for a peaceful protest outside the Durga Bhawan temple on Tuesday. But upon gathering, the protest soon took an ugly turn. The call for the protest comes after unrest in Leicester between people from Hindu and Muslim faith groups. More than two dozen police officers and a police dog were injured as a result of the disorder on Saturday night between the two communities. It also leads to 47 arrests.
A priest at the Hindu temple, Durga Bhawan said the police have been informed.

The priest said: “We are pleasant people and false allegations have been spread. People from all communities come to our temple. It’s a plot to create some situation. We have no issues here.”
A member of the temple committee, Upasakk, said: “We have informed the police. We were told about the protest by the Chair of the Imam group in Sandwell. People are trying to create a situation like Leicester here. There have never been any issues here between communities so far.”

In a video shared by ISKCON’s Radharamn Das, Islamists were seen hurling abuses toward the Hindus inside the Hindu temple premises. They were chanting Allah-Hu-Akbar, and some of them climbed the fence wall as well.

There were Police present at the scene, but in the video, it was evident that the number of Police Personnel was far less and not adequately equipped to handle a 200-strong mob of Islamists. The majority of the Islamists were masked in the video. Towards the end of the video, Police were seen making announcements asking the mob to move back. Some Police officials equipped with batons were seen approaching the temple to control the mob.
