Tremblor: A 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolts Andaman and Nicobar Islands

New Delhi: A mild earthquake measuring a magnitude intensity of 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted the Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the early hours of Saturday, September 03, 2022.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) took to Twitter and shared a seismograph, highlighting the affected areas. The NCS predicted the epicentre to be located nearly 106 km East-Northeast of the capital city, Port Blair, around 07:00 AM.

“Earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred on September 03, 2022, at 06:59 IST on latitude 12.02 and longitude 93.62 with a depth of 70 km located 106km ENE of Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India,” the NCS informed.

The earthquake comes after a 4.9 magnitude tremblor was experienced in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Friday, September 02, 2022. According to the NCS, the epicentre of the tremblor was located 108km NNE of the Diglipur district.

“Earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred on September 2, 2022, at 12:43 IST on latitude 14.11 and longitude 93.49 with a depth of 10 km located 108km NNE of Diglipur, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India,” the NCS had tweeted.

However, no reports of damages or casualties surfaced so far.
