New Delhi: For expansion outside the US, TikTok plans to enter the online shopping business in Japan in the next few months, the media reported.
TikTok, already present in Italy, France, and Germany, is also expanding its reach in other countries of Europe.
According to reports, the platform will soon invite sellers from Japan to join their e-commerce platforms.
The TikTok shop is an e-commerce platform where users can sell products ranging from beauty essentials to sneakers through live videos and earn money from the sales.
TikTok is waiting for a final deal with Japan that will allow it to continue the operations.
This step comes after uncertain future of the platform in the US which is exerting pressure on China on this issue.
While President Donald Trump stated that any decision on the app might take time, the trade war with China has also affected the global markets.
In April 2024, the US government passed what it called the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act” (PAFACA), which said that TikTok must sell its US business to a US company by January 19, 2025, or face a ban. After Trump became the President, he delayed the ban twice by signing executive orders and finding them buyers.
