The world needs more angry young women. Greta Thunberg fires back at US President Donald Trump:
New Delhi: A Swedish climate activist was fired on by the US president on Thursday, who mocked her for participating in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza and her subsequent deportation by Israel. Trump, on Monday, had dismissed Thunberg as a “strange” and “young, angry person” with “anger issues”, following her accusation that Israeli forces had “kidnapped” her while she was aboard a Gaza-bound aid ship. In response to this statement, Thunberg replied the world right now needs more young, angry women, as per the current situation of the world.
The 22-year-old climate campaigner was among 12 international activists aboard the Madleen, a British-flagged vessel operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. The ship, which departed from Italy on June 1, was intercepted by Israeli naval forces in international waters early Monday, about 185 km off the coast of Gaza. These activists were attempting to aid Gaza, which is on the verge of famine due to the war between Israel and Palestine.
Out of the 12 volunteers, Greta Thunberg and two others escaped and accepted immediate deportation and flew away, while the other 12 volunteers have been taken into custody, according to Adalah. Also, the 12 activists have been banned from Israel for the next 100 years. Thunberg also accused Israel of committing genocide against the people of Gaza and stated that the silence of the world on this situation scared her the most. Meanwhile, the feud between Trump and Thunberg marks a new chapter.
They both have a history of clashes, which dates back to 2019, when Trump sarcastically referred to her as a “very happy young girl” after her scathing speech at the United Nations. Later that year, he again urged her to “work on her anger management” after she was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year.
