The MAGA Boys: As Musk may float a new party, Russia offers him ‘asylum’!

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing high-voltage soap opera in the United States, the unending spat between President Donald Trump and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, and unconfirmed reports that the world’s wealthiest billionaire may float a “New America Party” of his own, Moscow has turned the knife in Washington’s wounds, offering ‘peace talks,’ and even asylum to the rebel technology tycoon.

Former Russian President and ex-Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Friday poked fun at the increasingly bitter public feud between Trump and Musk who had entered the White House together only on January 20, 2025, amid much fanfare, with their express aim to “Make America Great Again (MAGA).

“We are ready to facilitate the conclusion of a peace deal between D and E for a reasonable fee and to accept Starlink shares as payment,” the Russian leader posted on X (formerly Twitter, also owned now by Musk!)

“Don’t fight, guys!” he added, tongue firmly in cheek.

Musk responded with a laughing emoji to Medvedev’s post, the media reported on Saturday.

Medvedev’s post was aimed at the spiralling war of words between the two high-profile political allies-turned-foes.

A close ally of President Vladimir Putin, Medvedev currently serves as Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council. His remarks were greeted with glee by the Russian leadership at the public fallout between the two American figures.

Trump, currently trying to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, has clashed with Musk over criticism of his administration’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” about taxation issues which the Tesla CEO has publicly condemned as a “disgusting abomination.” His EV-maker Tesla has already lost more than USD 150 billion in market capitalization in recent days.

The billionaire, once a Trump backer-financer and head of the newly-minted Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) until May 31, escalated the feud by accusing the President of involvement in the sensational Jeffery Epstein scandal and threatened to expose him more. Musk even hinted at a mid-term presidential poll in 2026!

Dmitry Novikov, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said Russia is willing to offer Musk political asylum, if needed.

“I think that Musk has a completely different game, (so) he will not need any political asylum, although if he did, Russia, of course, could provide it,” Novikov told state news agency Tass.

Russian Senator Dmitry Rogozin echoed the sentiment.

“Elon, don’t be upset! If you encounter insurmountable problems in the US, come to us and become one of us,” Rogozin tweeted. “Here you will find reliable comrades and complete freedom of technical creativity.”

“We will, of course, resolve the issues of citizenship and military ID. Please fill out the forms…”

The Trump-Musk rift is widening by the day. Some media reports said they could talk on Friday. But Trump said he had no plans to speak to Musk and indicated that a review of the billionaire’s substantial government contracts is in the offing.

“We’ll take a look at everything,” the President said. “It’s a lot of money.”

Ironically, when his 290-day term at DOGE got over in May-end, the US President gifted Musk a golden key during a White House event honouring his work at the newly-created non-governmental office, which the billionaire headed right in the White House premises.

But their relations quickly soured after Musk’s public rebuke and accusations.
