The five countries which won the Cricket World Cups so far
When the Cricket World Cup started in 1975 in England, eight teams participated in the event: England, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and one composite team from East Africa.
Of these, Australia emerged as the most successful country, having won the Cup six times against England (1987), Pakistan (1999), India (2003), Sri Lanka (2007), New Zealand 92015), and India (2023).
India won its first Cup against the West Indies (1983) under Kapil Dev’s captaincy, and then the second against Sri Lanka (2011).
Likewise, the West Indies also won the Cup twice, against Australia (1975) and England (1979). Clive Lloyd was the best captain ever for West Indies.
Pakistan won the title against England (1992) under the captaincy of Imran Khan while Sri Lanka won the World Cup against Australia (1996) with Arjuna Ranatunga as its captain.
