NEW DELHI, Jan 20: The marriage across the border between the Indian lawn tennis star Sania Mirza and the Pakistan former cricket captain Shoaib Malik has ended. Malik on Saturday announced that he has married Pakistani popular actor Sana Javed in Karachi after getting “divorced” from Sania Mirza.
Sania’s father Imran Mirza promptly clarified “it was a ‘khula,” which refers to the right of a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband.
The cricketer who has a son with Sania, released a photograph on a social media platform with his new wife, with the words “And We created you in pairs”. Their five-year-old son Izaan lives with Sania.
Shoaib and Sania had got married at Sania’s home town in Hyderabad in April 2010 and they used to live in Dubai. There have been strong rumours since 2022 about differences between Shoaib and Sania leading to a split, and they have rarely been seen together in the last couple of years. Just a few days back Malik also unfollowed the Indian star on Instagram.

Sana Javed who has starred in a number of hit drama serial and also acted in Pakistani films had married singer Umair Jaiswal in 2020 at a simple ceremony amid the coronavirus pandemic. But, two months earlier, reports about their divorce emerged.
Sania, one of India’s greatest tennis players who in a career spanning over 20 years had won 43 WTA doubles titles and one singles trophy, had announced her retirement last year.
Sana Javed, born on March 25, 1993, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is a Pakistani actress who made her debut in 2012 with Shehr-e-Zaat. She gained recognition for her role in the romantic drama Khaani and has appeared in notable dramas like Ruswai and Dunk. Sana received a Lux Style Awards nomination for her performance in Khaani. Her acting credits also include shows such as Behadd, Shareek-e-Hayat, Dino Ki Dulhaniya, and I Love You Zada.
Sana Javed was previously married to Pakistani actor, singer-songwriter, and music producer Umair Jaiswal in 2020. However, the couple divorced in 2023. Following their separation, both Sana and Umar removed all of their pictures from social media. After marrying Shoaib Malik, Sana Javed changed her name in the bio on her Instagram account to “Sana Shoaib Malik.”
