Tennis: Recovering, Jessica Pegula withdraws from the French Open
New Delhi, May 23: World No.5 Jessica Pegula has pulled out of the 2024 French Open as she is recovering from neck and back injuries, the media reported on Wednesday.
The American player, 30, last played in the Billie Jean King Cup in April, when she helped the US beat Belgium.
Pegula expects to return for the Wimbledon event beginning on July 1.
“Hi guys, unfortunately, I’m pulling out of the French Open this year.” she wrote on her Instagram account.
Injuries pushed her to withdraw from the Middle East Swing tournament in February and the Italian Open in April as well.
The last time Pegula competed at the French Open was in 2023, when she reached the third round.
The 2024 French Open is set to start on Sunday in Paris.
