New Delhi: After seeing the fastest roll-out of the 5G across the country, India is poised to lead the world in the 6G as well, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday.
Addressing the Seventh India Mobile Congress, he said the government is working on becoming a leader in 6G as well.
“In 5G, we reached from roll-out to reach-out stage. Within a year of the roll-out, around 400,000 5G base stations have been set up in India.”
“Not only in 5G, we are in the direction of becoming a leader in the 6G space also.”
Unlike in 2014, when India was a net importer of mobiles, the country is now the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, PM Modi said, adding India is also manufacturing electronic goods worth Rs 2 trillion for exports.
“Today we all are proud that the entire world is using ‘Made in India’ phones,” he asserted.
The PM said India should take forward the success in mobile and electronics manufacturing to establish a strong semiconductor manufacturing sector in the country as well.
“Today semiconductor companies from around the world, in collaboration with Indian companies, are investing in semiconductor assembly and testing facilities in the country,” he said.
“India’s semiconductor plan is not only working on meeting the domestic demand but also to meet the global requirements,” he added.
PM Modi praised the country’s younger generation for leading India’s technology revolution.
In broadband speed, India’s global rank has risen from 118 to 43, he said, adding that the speed and availability of connectivity have a huge impact on the social and economic situation in the country. For this, the Centre’s top priority is to provide access to capital, resources, and technology.
Moreover, he said, the Centre is also focusing on democratizing technology.
“This is the biggest social justice. The more we use technology, the more we will go closer to becoming a developed nation.”
PM Modi also presented the award of “5G Labs:” to nearly 100 institutions.
Earlier, IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that India is emerging as a telecom technology developer, exporter, and leader.
