Southwest Monsoon advances in the interiors of the Indian subcontinent

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Southwest (SW) monsoon is advancing into the interiors of the Indian subcontinent in June and will reach the entire country by July.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), conditions are favourable for further advancement of the SW monsoon into some parts of North Arabian Sea, entire states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Monsoon will advance into some parts of Gujarat, south Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar as well as some more parts of West-central and Northwest Bay of Bengal and entire Sub-Himalayan West Bengal during subsequent 2-3 days.

Talking about SW monsoon winds, the IMD wrote, “Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit- Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad during June 16 to June 18, 2022; Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on June 16 and 17, and North Punjab on June 16, 2022.”

“Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Western Himalayan region and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, and East Uttar Pradesh during June 16-18,” the IMD tweeted.

“Rainfall activity likely to increase over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds during next 5 days,” the IMD added.
