Sharp rise in Covid-19 cases, India reports more than 58000 cases in a Single-Day

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday reported more than 58000 new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours. A tally of active cases in the country crossed the mark of 2 lakh. India has reported 2135 omicron cases so far.

As per the MoHFW, 15,389 coronavirus patients recovered in the last 24 hours – taking the total recoveries to 3,43,21,803.

More than 37.5 lakh children received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine Tuesday. The second day of the inoculation drive for those in the age group of 15-18 years. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late night.

As Karnataka continues to report a big spike in COVID-19 cases, the Basavaraj Bommai government has imposed certain restrictions to contain the surge. Besides imposing a weekend curfew in the state for the next two weeks – the Karnataka government has ordered that pubs, clubs, restaurants, bars, hotels, cinema halls, multiplexes, theatres, and auditoriums will operate with 50 percent seating capacity from January 5.

However, according to US health officials – The omicron variant accounted for 95% of new coronavirus infections last week. The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention posted its newest estimates Tuesday. The CDC uses genomic surveillance data to make projections about which versions of the COVID-19 viruses are causing the newest infections.
