Relocation: Apple plans to shift from China to India
New Delhi: Apple, Inc. plans to shift the entire unit of iPhones from China to India next year, the media reported on Friday.
Amid the ongoing tariff and trade war between the US and China, the company is planning a major strategic move, like shifting the entire iPhone unit to India next year to reduce technology dependence on China, the Financial Times said.
Now it depends on India how quickly it can get ready with the supply chain for the entire unit operations and also on the progress of the trade discussions between China and the USA. The Trump administration has been pressuring Apple to shift its assembly line from China.
Meanwhile, the contract manufacturer for iPhone in India is stepping up production. Around 70 percent of the exports were contributed by Apple’s iPhone supply chain, with Tamil Nadu-based Foxconn accounting for close to 50 percent of the overseas shipments.
Exports from the Foxconn factory registered an over 40 percent jump over the same period of the previous financial year. Last year Apple recorded sales worth USD 22 billion.
