Education: Trump criticizes Harvard, calls it a ‘threat to democracy’
New Delhi: During his ongoing war against the Liberal-Democrats-controlled educational institutions in the US, President Donald Trump on Thursday criticized Harvard University, labelling it as an “anti-Semitic” and “far-left” institution that he claims is a threat to American democracy.
On his Social Truth platform, he alleged that Harvard admits overseas students who want to rip America apart as a country. It is, therefore, a ‘major threat to the country’s democracy.’
He dubbed the Harvard students as a group of lunatics who incite anger and hate inside the classroom and called the institution a liberal mess.
Trump also criticized William Burck, a lawyer involved in the legal standoff of the institution against the federal government, and labelled him a ‘threat to democracy.’
On Monday, the university filed a lawsuit to challenge a federal freeze on more than USD 2.2 billion in grant funding. The move came after Harvard defied federal directives aimed at curbing campus activism.
The administration had sent a letter to the institution demanding sweeping reforms, changes in admission policies, diversity program reviews, and the de-recognition of certain student organizations.
Harvard President Alan Garber rejected all demands of the Trump administration and said activism would not stop on the campus, after which the government froze the funding.
