New Delhi: Facing a population decline, the US witnessed a slight increase of 1 percent in the birth of newborn babies following a dip the previous year, according to the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.
The rising number of births was fueled by the bourgeoning population in Asian and Hispanic data, the media reported.
The total birth growth rate included a 5 percent increase among Asian women and a 4 percent increase among Hispanic females, a major reason for the modest population growth. There was a decline in the number of births among Black and White women, the report said.
Despite the slight rise, concerns, however, persist as the total fertility rate remained below the replacement rate. The US has faced this problem since 2007.
California, the most populous state with 39 million residents, recorded the highest number of births at 401,515. Texas grabbed the second spot by only 11,000 fewer births.
Fifteen states witnessed a decline in the birthrates, including the District of Columbia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Women aged between 30 and 39 years gave birth to more babies than the younger ones between 15 and 24 years.
To address the problem, President Donald Trump has initiated USD 5000 baby bonuses to encourage Americans to marry and have babies.
Some of the top leaders of the country, including Vice President JD Vance and billionaire Elon Musk, are the prominent supporters of increasing the population of the United States.
