New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday hailed five years of PM Gati Shakti, saying the initiative had transformed India’s infrastructure development from a fragmented approach into a coordinated, technology-driven framework.
In a post on X, Goyal said the National Master Plan had strengthened multimodal connectivity, inter-ministerial coordination and data-driven decision-making, supporting faster project execution, logistics efficiency and inclusive regional development.
Launched on October 13, 2021, PM Gati Shakti brings infrastructure and geospatial information onto a common Geographic Information System-based platform. It now covers 58 Central Ministries and Departments and all 36 states and Union Territories.
The platform contained more than 23,493 data layers as of October 12, 2026. Its public platform provides regulated access to 230 approved datasets for site suitability analysis, connectivity mapping, alignment planning and compliance checks.
As of August 11, the Network Planning Group had evaluated 396 infrastructure projects with an estimated cost of ₹18.66 lakh crore. Of these, 256 had been sanctioned and 198 were under implementation.
Applications include the 699-km Pune–Bengaluru Expressway, where alignment changes reduced forest land overlap by 19%, and Assam’s Jogighopa Multimodal Logistics Park, designed to integrate road, rail and inland waterway transport.
The recently approved Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority will complement the initiative through long-term planning, technical appraisal of projects costing ₹500 crore or more, and implementation monitoring.
Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya had also trained more than 2.4 lakh officers through specialised courses by July 2026, supporting capacity building for integrated transport and logistics planning.
