Mumbai: Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean, recently opened about Johnny Depp’s return to the franchise as Jack Sparrow.

Jerry confessed that he has not completely ruled out the changes regarding Depp’s return to the franchise. Depp had earlier claimed that Disney removed him from Pirates 6 after Amber Heard’s accusation of domestic violence.

Actor Johnny Depp revealed he wanted to give the character a ‘proper goodbye’ and told the jury, “There’s a way to end a franchise like that…I planned on continuing until it was time to stop.”

On the other hand, Bruckheimer confirmed the development of the next Pirate film. Talking about the film still in development stage, he said, “Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts – one with her, one without.”

Robbie’s involvement in the franchise was first announced in 2020.  Talking about the character of Jack Sparrow, Bruckheimer revealed that the character has not been added currently. He was quoted as saying, “Not at this point, but the future is yet to be decided.”

Meanwhile, Depp claimed he would never return to the Pirates frachise. During a cross examination, Depp opened to Amber Heard’s lawyer about how Hollywood has boycotted him.

On being asked, “The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?”, the actor had replied, “That is true, Mr. Rottenborn.”

The first installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise released in 2003 with the Curse of the Black Pearl and has garnered millions at the box office ever since. The reports state that the fifth installment, namely Dead Men Tell No Tales, grossed at $172,558,876 since its release in 2017.
