Oscars 2022: Will Smith and Jessica Chastain grab Best Actor and Actress trophies
New Delhi: The 94th Academy Awards were held at the Dolby Theatre of Hollywood, the United States, on Monday, March 28, 2022, IST. Actors Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall hosted the Oscars.
Denis Villeneuve’s science-fiction epic, Dune, won the first award for the best sound. The film went on to win several technical categories like best score, best film editing, best cinematography, best production design, and best visual effects.
Film Coda won the best picture and best adapted screenplay award, whereas Belfast won the best original screenplay.
On the other hand, Encanto won the best-animated feature, and Summer of Soul won the best documentary feature.
Meanwhile, Troy Kotsur from Coda created history as he became the first deaf person to win the best supporting actor. Actor Ariana DeBose won the best-supporting actress for the film West Side Story.
Jane Campion was awarded the best director for The Power of the Dog as Will Smith won the Best Actor award for King Richard and Jessica Chastain won the best actress award for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Smith came to the limelight when he struck Chris Rock across the cheek for joking about his wife Jada Smith’s hair.
Drive My Car became the best international feature, and No Time to Die won the best original song. While The Eyes of Tammy Faye won in the best makeup and hairstyling category, the film Cruella won the best costume design.
The dramatic Oscars had interrupted celebrations for a moment of silence to show support for the people of Ukraine and urged global viewers to aid the war-torn country.
