Bhubaneswar: The State government of Odisha on Friday approved the new policy on Electric vehicles (EV). The new policy is aimed at achieving a target of 20 percent electric vehicles on road by 2025.
The Odisha government expects that at least twenty vehicles out of each hundred that would be registered in the state would be battery-operated electric vehicles by 2025.

Under the proposed policy guidelines, it has also been decided to extend financial incentives that include interest subvention in loans taken to purchase electric vehicles and waiving off of road tax and registration fees during the policy period to the manufacturers and users of electric vehicles.

Odisha-based experts have said that the state government may invest a huge amount to develop special infrastructure for this. The state government’s plan to promote EV in the state and develop special infrastructure for EV will generate employment for residents.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few days back launched the vehicle scrapping policy, in which he said that “The Vehicle Scrapping Policy is aimed at creating an eco-system for phasing out unfit and polluting vehicles in an environmentally friendly and safe manner. “Vehicle scrapping will help phase out unfit and polluting vehicles in an environment-friendly manner,”
