According to the media reports quoting his family, the accident occurred Sunday night when Kelvin Kiptum was driving the car.

After the mishap, police took the two bodies to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. In 2023, Kelvin Kiptum broke the record in a marathon of running 42 kilometres in only 2 hours and 35 seconds.
