Maldivian President Solih calls on President Droupadi Murmu
New Delhi: Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is on a four-day official visit to India, called President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
The President greeted Solih at Rashtrapati Bhavan, saying she was pleased to welcome a close friend of India and a distinguished leader under whose leadership the Maldives has become a peaceful and prosperous country.
The Maldives is a significant partner of India in the Indian Ocean region, she stated, adding that strong cultural, economic, and trading ties have existed between the two peoples for millennia.
India’s “Neighbourhood First” approach gives the Maldives a special place. New Delhi supports the island nation’s development initiatives with need-based financial and development aid.
President Murmu observed the swift growth of India-Maldives defense and security cooperation, economic linkages, and people-to-people exchanges bodes well for the two countries’ governments and people. A key tenet of the India-Maldives alliance now includes capacity building.
She expressed the hope that the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) inked during his visit will improve capacity-building efforts in the Maldives.
On July 25, when she took oath as India’s 15th President, Solih congratulated her. “Congratulations to Smt. Droupadi Murmu on her historic election as India’s 15th President. Her capability and experience will no doubt lead India to greater heights.
I look forward to enhancing the close relations between the Maldives and India under her leadership. @HCIMaldives”, he tweeted.
