ISRO launched two Singaporean satellites into space on PSLV-C55
New Delhi, April 22: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the two Singapur-made satellites on the Indian-made space module PSLV-C55 on Saturday.
The mission launched from the SDSC-SHAR Sriharikota in Indian standard time at 14:19 hours. The satellite is launched under the contract of the new Space India Limited, the commercial arm of the Indian space agency.
In the launch mission, the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM) used to put the satellites into space, which will carry TeLEOS-2 as the primary satellite and LUMILITE -4 as the co-passenger satellite, which weighs 741 kg and 16 kg, respectively. It launched into an eastward low-inclination orbit.
Out of the two, the TeLEOS-2 was developed under the partnership of DSTA and ST Engineering. This satellite will provide the imagery that will be used for hotspot monitoring and haze management, air crash search and rescue operations, and all-weather day and night coverage.
Whereas the second satellite, LUMILITE-4, which was co-developed by the Institute of Infocomm Research (IIR) and the National University of Singapore, will work as an e-navigation maritime safety system and will benefit the global shipping community.
The PSLV is spent in the fourth stage of the launch vehicle, which will be used as an orbit platform to carry out the scientific experiment via a non-separating payload once the primary and secondary satellites are deployed in orbit. After that, the payloads will be switched on. “The solar panels are mounted around the PS4 tank and will be deployed after confirmation of the stage’s achieving stabilization.” Said the ISRO.
