Intensive Professional Development Programme Discuss Strengthening India’s Border Security
GANDHINAGAR (Gujarat), Oct 14: A four-day intensive professional development programme on the theme of “Border Management and Intelligence” focussing on a wide range of areas related to strengthening India’s border security was held at the Gandhinagar-based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU).
Jointly organised by the Centre for Border Management and Intelligence (CBMI), under the aegis of the School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA), the programme held last week was aimed at creating a better understanding among its participants regarding the various issues and challenges in the field of Border Management and Intelligence as well as to assist the security officials, policy makers, researchers and other stake holders to understand the broad contours of the dynamic relationship between strategies, operations and outcome, an official spokesman of the RRU said.
A brain-child of the prime minister Narendra Modi when he was the chief minister of Gujarat, “Raksha Shakti University” has been officially re-christened as the “Rashtriya Raksha University” and was given the status of the “Institution of National Importance” by the central government on September 28.
Various sessions organised during the programme was attended by 65 participants from India and abroad. The participants comprised of representatives of various security forces and agencies, members of numerous police forces, academicians, and scholars, among others.
The speakers for this programme included senior officials of various national security agencies, retired army officials, field practitioners and academicians from India as well as foreign nations.
Organised as part of a series of professional training programmes for various stakeholders in the field of national security, the spokesman said a broader and more holistic understanding of the field of Border Management and Intelligence would not only help the working professionals who serve in this field but also create awareness among the younger generations in the country regarding the contribution that the army and other security agencies were making towards securing India’s borders.
Speaking about the importance of the programme, Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr Bimal Patel said, “As a Nation, we need to develop and strengthen our strategic culture. The programme aims to develop better coordination and provide a learning platform to CAPF’s, Police Institutions for better inter-agency liaison and coordination.”
Dr Akshat Mehta, Dean of SISPA, said, “The outcome of this programme would go a long way in providing inputs to the policy makers for strengthening the Border Security and Intelligence Network.”
The spokesman said the RRU was taking a lead in creating a “robust academic culture in the domain of national security” in the country and would continue to organise such professional training programmes for various sectors in future.
